On this date (August 2) in 1961 the Beatles played their first gig as the house band of Liverpool's Cavern Club
In 1964 more history was made. An audience of 73 million people would tune into the Ed Sullivan show on February 9, 1964 to hear four English mop tops perform "All My Loving" along with "Til There Was You" from the Music Man and "She Loves You" followed by a commercial break for Anacin before the show resumed.
Later the Lads from Liverpool closed out the show with
"I Saw Her Standing There" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand"
Incidentally two of the other performers on that evenings show were Frank Gorshin who would eventually take on the role of the Riddler in the Batman TV series and Davey Jones of the Monkees in his pre-simian days.
